
The Bridge Timeline
1976 Began planning in a prayer breakfast.
1978 Incorporated to provide a temporary shelter with a home environment that would serve as a "bridge" to assist individuals in returning to useful places in society.
1983 Rape crisis center opened. Began on-site childcare.
1993 The Bridge formed one of the first chapters of the Clothesline project in Texas. The Clothesline Project is a visual display that bears witness to violence against women.
1995 Added transitional program (at scattered sites in Pasadena.)
1996 Began Learning to Learn, a leadership development program for women coming out of crisis designed through Interconnections, San Antonio.
1998 Began serving transitional clients at Destiny Village, a specially-designed apartment complex. Destiny Village childcare opened—the first licensed childcare of its kind in Texas. Began Learning to Learn for Bridge staff.
1999 Added employment services for women to overcome barriers to employment that had arisen due to violence in their lives.
2001 Casework model transformed to continuum-of-care approach for increased positive impact in the lives of clients.
2002 Became a Bright Beginnings Agency and Touchpoints Collaborative Agency to improve childcare services. Added a bilingual community education specialist.
2003 Added long-term housing for battered women with disabilities, housed at Destiny Village. Added scattered-site transitional housing. Began creative counseling program for children.
