Status update

The Bridge broke ground on a 2-story, 40,000 square foot building on Monday, October 5, 2009, at 3811 Allen Genoa in Pasadena.  We invite you to follow our progress as we begin construction on our new facility, which upon completion will house a new 100-bed emergency shelter, specifically for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, as well as the agency's administrative offices. Currently, the building is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2010.

Current Shelter Status

The current Shelter is a two-story 12,000 square foot building located in Pasadena that originally housed 25 residents.  Due to the increased need, the shelter's space has been stretched to its capacity and currently houses 75-residents, as well as numerous direct service staff - more than 3 times its capacity.

The entire shelter uses one dorm-style bathroom, which consist of 4 toilets, 4 showers and 1 bathtub. There is an additional bathroom with 1 toilet and 1 shower to accommodate clients with disabilities as well as adolescent males.

More than 137,000 meals are prepared and served annually from a kitchen no larger than one you would find in a mid-sized home.

The Bridge Today

Due to the great demand for services, two or more families often share one of the sixteen bedrooms.

Over the past three years, the days of service provided by The Bridge have increased by 3,642 - the second highest increase in Texas.

The need for the new shelter is so great that The Bridge had to turn away 810 women from safe shelter in 2008.
